A Regional MSP has called on the Scottish Government to extend Storm Recovery Grant money to Argyll and Bute Council, after it was denied funding following storms of October 2023.
Highlands and Islands Regional MSP Tim Eagle made the call during a Holyrood debate on flood management, where he also asked the Net Zero Secretary, Mairi McAllan MSP, why the Council was excluded from the Storm Babet Ministerial Taskforce.
Mr Eagle also raised the continued closure of the A816 near Kintraw as a result of a landslip, and he demanded greater urgency to deliver a permanent solution for the A83 Rest and Be Thankful.
Highlands and Islands MSP (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) Tim Eagle said:
“The creation of the Storm Babet Recovery Grant to support homes and businesses in some of the worst hit parts of Scotland last year was the right thing to do, but many homes and businesses across Argyll and Bute were also badly hit, and they have received nothing.
“Argyll and Bute was faced with some its worst weather in years, and many residents were cut off from the rest of Scotland for days on end.
“It is only right that the Scottish Government retrospectively provides Argyll and Bute Council with recovery funding to help those who were affected by all of the recent storms.”
