Highlands and Islands MSP Tim Eagle has warned that train passengers travelling from Oban face a significant rise in fares.
This follows an announcement by Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop that the peak fares pilot scheme would end on 27th September.
Mr Eagle said: “It will clearly be concerning to regular rail users in Oban and surrounding communities that the cost of travel during peak times will increase once again.
“We now find that a ticket costing £37.40 stands to go up to £54.50 for the Glasgow service and from £37.40 to £47.40 for Fort William. These are very significant increases and way above the rate of inflation.
“We should instead be encouraging travellers to consider public transport when practical, and relieving pressure on the roads which are becoming ever busier and accident prone, especially here in Argyll and Bute and across the Highlands.”
