Highlands and Islands Regional MSP Tim Eagle is seeking answers from ministers about the state of the health service in the Western Isles.
Tim Eagle MSP said: “There are widespread and serious concerns about the operation of the health service in the Western Isles following reports of under-funding and significant challenges facing the hospital network.
“For this reason, I am fielding a series of parliamentary questions to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray, to give him an opportunity to address these issues, and to reassure the public, and also local NHS workers, on these points.
“We all want the best for the health service but that can only be achieved if there is transparency, and the community has confidence that what has been promised will actually be delivered.
“As always I recognise the huge work put in by staff across the NHS who work above and beyond. These issues stem from investment by the Scottish Government and health boards and are not a reflection on local staff working incredibly hard. We want local facilities to be positive places where people want to work.”
Among the questions being put by Mr Eagle are ones that relate to the replacement of St Brendan’s Hospital on Barra; the refurbishment of a ward in the Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway; and the acquisition of automated medicine cabinets.
