Highlands and Islands MSP Tim Eagle has urged the Scottish Government and local authorities in the Highlands and Islands to focus their attention on providing permanent homes for people waiting in temporary accommodation.
Responses to a series of Freedom of Information requests have revealed the waits being faced by children and adults in Argyll and Bute and the Western Isles can sometimes be measured in years.
Mr Eagle said: “Having been a councillor myself I know that placing people in the right accommodation is not always straightforward but some of these figures are really quite alarming. The response to the freedom of information request revealed that in some instances people in temporary accommodation are waiting, quite literally, for years to find something more permanent.
“Given the funding challenges facing local authorities I believe that the Scottish Government needs to engage with this, and work with the councils. We need to see more focused work in this area, in order to achieve solutions.”
